Braves' AJ Smith-Shawver: Rejoining Atlanta as reliever
Rotowire
Atlanta activated Smith-Shawver (oblique) from the 15-day injured Tuesday.
Smith-Shawver had been slated to make his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett, but he will rejoin the big club instead to offer length in the bullpen, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The young right-hander struck out four and allowed one run over two innings in his lone rehab appearance last week with High-A Rome. Smith-Shawver went 4.1 shutout frames in his lone start this season for Atlanta back in late May before exiting with a strained oblique.

Braves' Sean Murphy: Slugs clutch homer
Rotowire
Murphy went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-4 extra-innings win against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Atlanta was down to its last out when Murphy tied the score with his two-run blast off Arizona closer Paul Sewald in the top of the ninth inning. The clutch long ball was Murphy's second over his past four games, though he has only one other hit during that stretch. The veteran backstop went deep a career-high 21 times last season and has five homers through 29 contests during the current campaign.

Braves' Joe Jimenez: Nails down save Monday
Rotowire
Jimenez earned a save against the Diamondbacks on Monday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning.
Primary closer Raisel Iglesias worked the ninth and 10th frames, so Atlanta turned to Jimenez to close things out after the team scored in the top of the 11th. The veteran right-hander issued a one-out walk but kept Arizona off the scoreboard to earn the save. Jimenez has been one of Atlanta's top high-leverage options this season with two saves and 17 holds along with a 2.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 38:14 K:BB over 35 frames. Iglesias should continue to get the vast majority of the save chances moving forward, but Jimenez appears to be among the team's top closing options when the former is unavailable or used in a different capacity.

Braves' Bryce Elder: Runs out of gas in no-decision
Rotowire
Elder tossed five-plus innings against Arizona on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one batter in a no-decision.
Elder was recalled from Triple-A ahead of the contest to make a spot start as Chris Sale was pushed back an extra day for rest reasons. Elder was outstanding through five frames, allowing just two hits and no runs. However, he lost that momentum in the sixth, allowing four straight batters to reach base (on two singles and two walks) to surrender a run before getting the hook. Two more runs were charged to the right-hander's ledger following his departure, souring what had been an impressive outing. Elder may return to the minors in short order with Atlanta's rotation lined up until the All-Star break.

Braves' Bryce Elder: Recalled, will start Monday
Rotowire
Atlanta recalled Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett, and he'll start Monday's game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Chris Sale had been listed as Atlanta's scheduled starter for Monday, but the big club will build in some extra rest for the All-Star lefty and have him take the hill Tuesday. In his last start in the majors June 26 against the Cardinals, Elder took the loss while allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four over six innings. The 24-year-old right-hander is 1-3 across six major-league starts this season with a 5.76 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 29.2 innings.

Braves' Chris Sale: Start pushed to Tuesday
Rotowire
Sale is no longer scheduled to start Monday's series opener in Arizona and will instead take the hill Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The southpaw appeared poised for a two-start week to close out Atlanta's first-half schedule, but that's suddenly in jeopardy after the club chose to call up Bryce Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Monday. While he could still be available to start Atlanta's final game before the break Sunday in San Diego on four days' rest, since Sale has already been named to the National League All-Star team, the coaching staff might prefer not to use him that day in advance of the Midsummer Classic. Even if Sale ends up getting just one start this week, fantasy managers will likely still want to keep him active, given that he's gone 3-2 with a 1.97 ERA and 0.84 WHIP since serving up a season-high eight earned runs June 1 versus Oakland.

Braves' Eddie Rosario: Added to Atlanta roster
Rotowire
Atlanta selected Rosario's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Rosario needed just three games at Gwinnett to convince Atlanta he was ready for a shot at the big-league level, going 3-for-11 with one home run and one triple. The 32-year-old slashed just .183/.226/.329 in 235 plate appearances this season before being cut loose by the Nationals, but while with Atlanta in 2023, he hit .255/.305/.450 with 21 home runs over 142 games. Rosario will likely receive regular playing time in left field against right-handed pitching while Atlanta scrambles to find outfield production due to Ronald Acuna (knee) and Michael Harris (hamstring) being out.

Braves' J.P. Martinez: Set to lose 40-man roster spot
Rotowire
Atlanta is expected to designate Martinez for assignment Monday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Atlanta called Martinez up from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 27, but he logged just 10 plate appearances before heading back to the minors June 17. Despite Atlanta having been hit hard by injuries to outfielders, Martinez has been passed over for a call-up over the past few weeks, making it clear the 28-year-old didn't have much of a future in the organization.

White took Tyler Phillips deep in the sixth inning for his first big-league homer since June 12, 2022, when he played for the Rangers. White picked up his first two hits of the season in his third start. His recent uptick in playing time may not last long, as Ramon Laureano (oblique) is expected to return soon.
