If you look on Amazon, you will find a huge array of Paleo cookbooks. As a recipe book junkie myself, I have tried a lot of them. If you are just starting you will appreciate learning about the best Paleo recipe books that will help you get started without spending hours in the kitchen or breaking the bank.

Best Paleo Cookbooks

I spent a lot of money in recipe books and many hours trying all kinds of recipes that didn’t turn out so great. I don’t limit my cookbook buying habit to Paleo cookbooks. I love vegan cookbooks as well, particularly when they don’t have too many grain recipes. Also, before writing this post, I decided to look at other people’s favorite Paleo cookbooks on the Internet. I found some were similar and others were completely different. Obviously, everyone is different and will have different preferences.

My criteria to pick the best Paleo cookbooks

To give you an idea, here are the five criteria I used to pick my favorite Paleo cookbooks:

  • Family-friendly: Keep in mind that if you eat pizza a few times a week and grilled cheese or sandwiches for lunch, it will take a while to adapt to the Paleo lifestyle, but some recipe books have recipes that will be more appealing to children than others.
  • Simple ingredients and recipes:Again, nomatterwhat, youmighthavetorediscoveryouringredients, andsomemightseemforeigntoyou.
  • Include recipes that are reminiscent of old family favorites and comfort foods:Childrenarenottheonlyoneswhosometimesstrugglewithchangingtheirdiet.Adultsneedthecomfortsoffamiliaritytoosometimes. That’s why you will enjoy the recipe books in this list. They include recipes that will remind you of your old favorites.
  • Recipes turn out delicious and appetizing, for real! It is relatively common to find recipes online that don’t turn out so good. Cookbooks tend to be more reliable, but not always. These Paleo classiccookbooks will give you great results (mostly, I haven’t tried ALL the recipes).
  • Recipes are not too focused on meat: I find that well-loved Paleo cookbooks mostly offer a variety of meat dishes. I love getting inspired by veggie side dishes AND entres.
  • Beautiful books that make you feel inspired to cook: I love beautiful pictures and nicely laid out books. I think it’s an essential aspect of any recipe book.
  • Affordable and easy to find on Amazon: there are lots of great Paleo resources out there, many of which you can buy online for more money than the average book on Amazon. The books that made it to this list are available on Amazon, and you can purchase the Kindle version to save money.

My 7 Top Paleo Cookbooks

1- Against All Grain by Danielle Walker: This was one of the first Paleo cookbooks I ever purchased. To this day, it remains one of my favorites! Even the following cookbooks that Danielle came up with were not as good as this one in my opinion. Although I also love Meals Made Simple,
the fantastic eight weeks menu plan and the quality of the recipes give the book Against All Grain has a slight edge.

2- The Paleo Kids Cookbook by Jennifer Robins: I admit, I am a fan of Jennifer Robins. I have enjoyed her cookbooks so much, I now follow her on Instagram, and I regularly check her Website for ideas. The Paleo Kids Cookbook is impressive if you are looking for meal ideas that are extremely kid-friendly. In this book, you will find mac and cheese, grilled cheese and pig in a blanket. Just be aware that the paleo versions require a lot more work than their traditional counterparts. I view these recipes as nice treats to please the children.

3- Well-Fed Weeknights by Melissa Joulwan: This particular cookbook was not going to be in this list until I looked up other people’s favorite and purchased it after reading one of the reviews. I was not a big fan of her first book. In fact, I gave it away because I never used it. It was mostly meat from what I recall. The Weeknight version though includes not only a lot of useful info to help you on your Paleo journey, like cooking info and dining out advice as well as meal plan ideas. The recipes are simple and include your veggies, so it is a win-win.

4- Ketotarian by Will Cole: Now, let me warn you that this won’t be your most kid=friendly cookbook. However, it is still one of my favorites because the recipes are delicious, easy and don’t revolve around meat. Again, you will even get a meal plan to get you inspired to mix and match various dishes. I have loved this book from day one.

5- Nourishing Meals by Alissa Segersteen and Tom Malterre: This book doesn’t have very many pictures, but it includes a huge number of fantastic recipes, I still decided to put it on the list anyway. The recipes are all gluten-free, but not necessarily Paleo. There are many Paleo recipes (including baking), and it’s one of the first books I recommend you buy if you are not too familiar with the Paleo lifestyle and would like to ease in with whole food, gluten-free recipes.

6- Paleo Cooking with you Instant Pot by Jennifer Robins: I said it, I am a Jennifer Robins fan! Should it surprise you that two of her books made my list? If you don’t have an Instant Pot, don’t write this one off, you can use your slow cooker or the oven for all the recipes. A slow cooker/Instant Pot is the ultimate of busy mom’s survival arsenal in the kitchen. Check out this book to learn how you can use these tools AND cook Paleo.

7- The Heal Your Gut Cookbook by Hilary Boynton and Mary G. Brackett: If you are ready to dive in deeper into healing your body, this is the cookbook for you. Not only will it take you through the GAPS diet protocol, but you will learn to create your Paleo pantry basics, like almond milk, coconut milk, fermented vegetables, and soaked nuts. The perfect book to purchase when you are ready to take your learning one step further.
