Hey! Look at me, I was ā€œon the radioā€ this past November 2023, for 30 whole minutes describing my worst of times: severe concussions from 1973 and 1983 car wrecks, and a major life crash following a 2006 brain surgery. Amy Zellmer is dedicated to helping people who have had brain trauma due to surgeries, accidents, falls, and childhood injuries. If youeverhad a brain injury, or know of someone who has, it may give you important insights. BTW, you donā€™t need to be ā€œknocked outā€ to have a concussion, so you might qualify. Concussions/injuries are not ā€œone off,ā€ as symptoms recur, and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often not caught by ER docs. I explore how the medical community misses this important piece of our histories, and how shame from resulting dysfunction keeps people (me included) from getting the help they need. For those who have known me for decades, and didnā€™t know all about this aspect of my life, it may explain a lot. If you resonate with this topic, all her podcastsare fascinating and helpful. As always, if you wish to discuss your own response, please donā€™t hesitate to reach out to me directly:cynthia@cynthiawall.com.#traumaticbraininjury #tbi #braininjury

This week on BackTable OBGYN, Drs. Mark Hoffman and Amy Park are joined by Dr. Barbara Levy to discuss the latest advancements in endometrial ablation using cryotherapy. Dr. Levy, a professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and CMO of Visana Health, has dedicated her career to gynecological advancements. The physicians delve into the history of endometrial ablation, originally conceived as an alternative to hysterectomy for severe menstrual bleeding. The early method involved using a fiber to ablate the entire cavity, followed by electrosurgery using a roller ball, which has various control-related challenges, necessitates operating room time and anesthesia, and has a prolonged recovery period with significant pain. The introduction of cryotherapy marked a significant breakthrough in ablation. Dr. Levy explains the new Cerene handheld cryoablation device, highlighting its primary benefit of improved healing in the uterus. Electrocautery often results in scarring and adhesions, making visualizing the uterine cavity for concern of future pathologies very difficult. Cryotherapy offers over 90% visibility into the cavity, making later assessments for uterine or endometrial cancer much easier.Stream the episode: https://ow.ly/MSwp50Qt33i#WomensHealth #OBGYN #EndometrialAblation #Cryoablation #Gynecology
