1. Patient Portal New Account Instructions
Welcome to the new Wilmington Health Patient Portal! Your registration allows you to examine your lab results, schedule appointments, pay bills, and more!
2. Log In
To access the wilmington health patient portal, click on https://www.wilmingtonhealth.com/patient-portal. When you arrive at this screen, click “Log-In Now.”
Your temporary password and security question are listed below.
Sign in to your portal account using the information listed below:
- Enter your email address.
- wilmingtonhealth1 is a temporary password. (all lower case, all one word)
- If asked, your security question should be, “What is your mother’s maiden name?”
You can update your password once you’re in your gateway. Choose the “My Account” tab, then “Change Password.”
Please notify your provider that you have registered by sending a message. When you have a question for your clinician or nurse, use the messaging tool.
3. Self-Register an Account No PIN
Go to the patient portal page. Log into The Wilmington Health Patient Portal:
- Select Create an Account
- Enter your email address (it must be unique for each patient)
- Enter password
- Register-Select No PIN
- Enter date of Birth
- Enter Last Name, First name
- Enter gender
- Enter Phone Number
- Enter the Location Zip code
- Select Office Location from the drop-down list
- Create a Security Question
- Optional-Add Child Dependent
- Agree to terms and Conditions
- Select Complete
- An Email will notify the patient that their account was successfully created and ask to confirm their email address.
- You have now been registered as a portal user and awaiting Wilmington Health’s authentication.
- Please allow two business days for full access to your portal.

4. How to Add a Proxy for Patients Over 18 Years Old
From their patient portal page, the patient can enable Proxy access:
- Select the My Account option.
- Section Associated Accounts
- Select the Add a Proxy Account option.
- Enter your first and last name, along with your gender.
- Enter your birthday.
- Enter your phone number.
- Enter Email.
- Once the patient clicks the Submit button, the Proxy user will receive an email with instructions on accepting and verifying proxy access.
- The Proxy user will be able to access the Patient Portal account for the person they are proxies by clicking the Switch Account link on their Patient Portal page.

At Novant Health NHRMC, Wilmington Health patient portal surgeons perform robotic-assisted surgeries.
Doctors in the Wilmington area are pioneering robotic-assisted gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery, making them the first of their kind in southeastern North Carolina.
Dr. Jayme Stokes of Wilmington Health patient portal is the first surgeon at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center to perform a robotic-assisted sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery.
Dr. Gentry Caton, surgery department division chief at Wilmington Health, was the first to complete a TAMIS surgery using robotics in 2021.
“As the hospital’s access improves, we will be able to perform robotic surgery on an urgent and emergent basis.”
So we’re talking about patients who can have extensive surgeries done with small incisions and patients who come into the ER and can have surgeries typically done with extensive incisions and extended hospital stays.
And when used correctly, these patients can do very well with fewer complications,” Dr. Gentry Caton said.
Robotic surgery provides numerous advantages that enable surgeons to provide better patient care.
6. About Robotics and Procedures
With optics that offer ten times more magnification, the surgeon can see tissues in unprecedented detail and more precisely perform the technical parts of the procedure with each instrument.
“So, we’ve been doing robotics for years, and advances in robotics have continued to allow physicians to perform more and more complex procedures, allowing patients to return to normal activity more quickly, with less pain, and with less bleeding.”
And this will continue to revolutionize how we care for our patients in the future,” Caton predicted.
Colectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, and transanal minimally invasive removal of rectal lesions, or TAMIS, are among the procedures available.
Dr. Stokes incorporates robotic technology into his practice rather than canceling operations that require patients to stay overnight during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With the benefits of the robot, we are currently the only bariatric program in the region that can offer patients same-day discharge after their bariatric operation,” Dr. Stokes said.
“Because robotic surgery causes less trauma to a patient’s tissues, postoperative pain is significantly reduced compared to open surgery or traditional laparoscopic surgery.”
As a result, patients typically require fewer prescription pain medications and return to normal activities more quickly after surgery.
Some surgeries that used to require an inpatient stay in the hospital can now be performed as outpatient procedures. This allows the patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes,” Stokes says.
