Rookie minicamps have started. Teams have opened up their OTAs. We’re hearing about training camp holdouts and getting piece after piece about contract negotiations. The 2024 NFL season truly is just around the corner. After a long offseason, it’s a welcomed change-of-pace. But along with all the offseason work and drama, there’s another aspect to get ready for, and that’s your new fantasy football season!
ESPN Insider Field Yates has dropped the first version of his top 100 for 2024 (in PPR formats) and the Minnesota Vikings have four players in the top 100. Who made the cut, and where do they fall in his rankings? Let’s dive in!
Justin Jefferson

It’s no surprise that Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the first Viking to make Yates’ top 100. Jefferson has been one of the league’s best wide receivers since entering the league, and he was a 1,000-yard receiver again last season despite missing a good portion of the season with hamstring issues. Jefferson also had to deal with significant turmoil at the quarterback position yet still finished the year extremely productive.
While there are still significant questions at quarterback, Jefferson comes into the year healthy and should once again be one of the top wide receivers in the league. That’s likely why Yates has Jefferson as the No. 6 player overall and his WR4, behind only Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb, Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, and Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase.
Aaron Jones

After several years as the top dog in the Green Bay Packers backfield, Aaron Jones has jumped ship and come over to the Packers’ division rival. The Minnesota Vikings’ rushing attack was disappointing in 2023, with both Cam Akers and Alexander Mattison failing to secure the starting job for long. Eventually Ty Chandler took the mantle and finished out the season, but none of the three were able to provide consistent production.
On the flip side, when healthy, Jones has always been productive during his time in Green Bay. Now, he’ll bring that consistency to a backfield that desperately needs it. There’s a big gap between Jones and the first Viking on Yates’ list, Justin Jefferson, as Jones comes in at #43 overall and the RB18.

We have another big gap between Vikings here, as there’s 40+ players between Aaron Jones and the next Viking on Yates’ list: Wide receiver Jordan Addison. Addison came in and made a big impact on the Vikings offense in his rookie season, providing quarterbacks with a reliable target as a rookie, and giving the offense some much-needed production in the wake of Justin Jefferson’s injury.
Now, entering Year 2, Addison will try to avoid the dreaded sophom*ore slump as he adjusts to a new quarterback — something he got plenty of experience with last season during Minnesota’s carousel of quarterbacks in the wake of Kirk Cousin’s injury. Addison comes in as the 84th-ranked player on Yates’ list, and his WR 37.

The last of the four Minnesota Vikings to appear in Field Yates’ top 100 PPR rankings for 2024 is tight end T.J. Hockenson. Hockenson comes in as Yates’ #86 overall and TE9. Those rankings are likely influenced by the season-ending knee injury Hockenson suffered towards the end of the 2023 season. Had Hockenson suffered that injury earlier in the year, there would be less concern about his availability at the beginning of the season.
As it stand now, though, it’s uncertain when Hockenson will be available at all for the Vikings, much less back to full strength. 2024 will likely be somewhat of a down season for Hockenson, but with two new quarterbacks — one a rookie — vying for the starting job, Hockenson should be able to provide significant value as a safety valve, if nothing else. Once he’s able to get on the field, that is.
